With petrol closing in in the scary R10 level and thereafter seemingly certain to hit its all time high (see a chart of the petrol price here), what of investing or trading oil?

Just a year ago the choice was Sasol and for the brave Onando and for the very brave Sacoil.

But these days there are a number of options (ETF's, futures and warrants) for South African's to get in on the oil price and we're doing a live webinar covering the various alternatives

Monday 18 April @ 12.30pm

Book here.

Today we're two months old. I know, two months isn't exactly a date one throws a party for, but we’re really chuffed with the activity and feedback so far; so a huge thanks to all who have sent comments (good and bad) as well as everybody who has viewed a webinar (live or on demand).

The week ahead sees our first webinar on FX trading. You've probably seen the adverts promising untold riches, and likely before lunch-time.  Alwyn Burger gives us the low down on FX trading as he dispels the myths that are sold by the FX vendors.  Alwyn has been down this road himself and has the scars to prove it, so he is perfectly placed to help us miss the pit falls.

Today we also have another webinar in our absolute beginner series and the topic is how to buy shares. There are a number of different options and we'll give you the low down on all of them.

The past week saw webinars for traders and investors as Keith Mclachlan presented the JSE Power Hour on small and mid cap analysis.  He also gave us some of his preferred stock picks in the space. Today also sees the re-launch of his SmallCaps.co.za website, go give it a whirl.

Garth Mackenzie from TradersCorner.co.za did a traders webinar on developing a trading plan, which is an absolutely critical part of the trading process, and he covered risk management too.

We also had a webinar on investing in commodity ETF's and ETN's. Both commodities and the ETF/ ETN space is hotting up, and they complement each other perfectly with a fairly decent selection for investors and traders to choose from - gold, silver, platinum, palladium, oil and coal.

We update our momentum portfolio this week and it's doing great. Excluding costs it was +17.56% from 1 January 2011 to close 1 November 2011 against the Top40 index off 0.9%.

The beauty of this system is its simplicity. On 2 January 2011 we just buy the top 5 winners in the Top40 from the previous year and hold them for the year.

For 2011 the 5 stocks are; KIO, MSM, CFR, SHP & TRU.

You can find the video here.
